What Are Spent Beer Grains?
Leashless Lab treats are baked with barley from breweries after the carbohydrates and gluten are removed to make beer. This high protein and high fiber grain, also known as "spent grain" is typically sent to landfills and cattle farmers, never fetching it's full potential until now.
Your pup is helping reduce big sustainability problems. Over 40% of our recipe is made with upcycled spent beer grains and a limited number of humane-grade healthy ingredients.
Why Upcycling Is Awesome!
Upcycling is elevating all food to its highest and best use. At Leashless Lab, we collaborate with the craft beer community by creating a new, high-quality product from an otherwise wasted - but perfectly nutritious – ingredient of spent brewers’ grain. We are passionate about upcycling because it is an opportunity to get creative with sustainability.
A Sustainable Second Chance For Lost Food
Upcycling food is an ancient tradition based on the philosophy of using all of what you have. It's about doing more with less, and elevating all food to its highest and best use. Most of all, upcycled food is about reducing food waste, by creating high quality, nutritious food products out of the nutrients that slip through the cracks of our food system.
